Style Tips. Usage & Abusage on ‘much and many. Do not use the former where the latter is idiomatic as in ‘As much as twenty members have resigned; many is the word for separables, for units, for entities. Le Monde reports that on the fuel depot strikes, a worried government has decided to raise its tone ‘Carburants: incite, le government hausse le ton’ and there is a picture of civilian destruction in Ukraine with the headline: ‘“Poutine veut nous terroriser, mais nous n’avons plus peur.”’ The petrol shortage crisis through strike action in France is the main theme on the front pages of many papers across the country- ‘La Fracture automobile’ says La Croix, ‘Carburants- Le plain de tensions’ declares Libération, La Dépêche du Midi reports ‘La France à sec: “Ça suffit!” La Voix Du Nord reports ‘Après le système D, les réquisitions.’ Sud Ouest is preoccupied with the lessons to be learned from a fire at du parking des Salinières, and Le Parisien asks the question ‘Qui cont les extrémistes de la grève?’
