But it is on open source access and a gift to the people of Chelsea past, present and future, and free to visit, read and appreciate.
Tim Crook was brought up and educated in Chelsea. His parents first met in the Borough while living there in the late 1940s. They would remain Chelsea people until they passed away. This online public service resource is designed to provide access to around fifty years of his research on the social history of Chelsea.
The author has a large part of his heart in Chelsea. He spent most of his childhood and early adult years there. Educated at the Marlborough Primary School 1965 to 1970, chorister at Chelsea Old Church 1966 to 1972, head choir boy, confirmed in the Church of England by the Bishop of Kensington at Chelsea Old Church in 1972, community affairs campaigner for Chelsea Young Liberals, and his first jobs were at the Black Lion in Old Church Street and Shura Leathergoods in the King’s Road.

Bringing to life the Chelsea of the past
The image above shows Black troops from the British colonies camping in the Duke of York barracks adjoining the King’s Road which you can see above the tents and wall. They were gathering to celebrate the coronation of King George V in 1911.
